  • Biography

    My background is in the water supply industry, with 25 years in SA Water in South Australia. It was here that I received industry best standard training and experience in all aspects of pumping and hydraulics, with significant field experience in pump and pipeline efficiency and flow-meter testing on pumps up to 5,000 kW and pipelines up to 1.6 meter diameter. This included numerous technical investigations undertaken in those fields, with a number of technical articles written.

    I left SA Water in 1992 to pursue a career in the irrigation industry, initially designing, building and commissioning packaged pumping stations for the golf, turf and horticulture industries. In 2000, I commenced 3 years with Australia’s largest irrigation Consultancy, designing pumping and irrigation systems. In 2003, I established Tallemenco Pty Ltd, through which I have continued to offer design and auditing services to clients Australia wide.

    In 2010, after 18 years in the irrigation industry, I decided to use my extensive pumping and hydraulic background experience to train others. I designed two training courses, “Advanced Pumping & Hydraulics” in 2010 and “Advanced Pump Station Design” in 2015, which collectively I have taught online to 124 irrigation personnel ranging from engineers to laborers throughout Australia and New Zealand.

    I undertake pumping energy efficiency audits within the irrigation industry where in the last 3 years have identified over $400,000 worth of annual electricity savings and also design large scale irrigation pumping stations with emphasis on energy efficiency.

    I continue to write technical articles for Irrigation Journals with an emphasis on pumping and pipeline energy efficiency.

    Tallemenco Pty Ltd was formed in 2003 as a Pumping and Hydraulics Consulting company for the irrigation Industry, based in Adelaide, South Australia. I am the only FT employee, being the Managing Director, Designer and Trainer. My wife Sandy is the Business Manager. The business is home based, with a mobile office.

    Using my 48 years experience in the water industry, and under the umbrella of Tallemenco, I design, audit and teach to a wide clientele mainly in the Australian and New Zealand irrigation Industry, but will travel to all corners of the globe to offer my services.

    Tallemenco’s specialized skills are principally in the pumping and pipeline energy efficiency areas, which form the basis of the on-line training programs which Tallemenco runs, principally the “Advanced Pumping & Hydraulics” and the “Advanced Pumping Station Design” courses. Over 120 personnel from Australia and NZ have benefited from these courses.

    Tallemenco’s pumping energy efficiency audits over the last 3 years have identified over $400,000 worth of recoverable electricity energy savings from irrigation pumping systems, with a ROI of less than 2 yrs.

    Other specialized skills are in pumping station and pipeline system design, with stations up to 1,000 liters per second (15,850 US gpm) and 525kW in size, and with an emphasis on pump energy efficiency.
