Biography

I got into the business from the golf design end – had previously worked for Robert Trent Jones (Senior) as a Design Associate and Irrigation Designer.  Few, if any, other consultants have a background in golf course architecture.  I went to work for RTJ in 1972, and left in 1985 when James Barrett Associates was founded.  JBA does irrigation design and consulting and water management studies exclusively for golf courses.
Past President and Board Member of ASIC national and served on many committees.  Past President and Board Member of ASIC Northeast Chapter.
22 years on the IA Certification Board and Chairman of same.  Past IA Board Member and served/serve on many committees.
Long time member of GCSAA, GCSANJ, ASABE, USGA, GCBAA, CIT.
Speaker at various regional and national conferences.  Author of numerous  articles  in industry publications.
Recipient of 2005 IA Industry Achievement AwardRecipient of 2013 ASIC Sam Tobey Lifetime Achievement Award
Designer of more than 350 golf course irrigation systems, including those at 21 of the GOLF DIGEST Magazine Top 100 Courses in the US, and 4 of the top 10.

James Barrett Associates was established in 1985.  It is a completely independent consulting firm, dealing exclusively in golf course irrigation projects.  We do evaluations of existing systems, designs for retrofit and new construction projects, field staking and construction management for projects we have designed, water management studies and programs, GPS data collection and processing,  creation of interactive mapping, and programming.
The company’s goal is quality design that meets the needs of the client with efficient and reliable systems.  The systems are sensitive to the environment and the responsible use of water resources, and to the architectural integrity of the course.
The firm has complete insurance coverage in both general business and professional liability (errors and omissions) areas.
From the office in New Jersey JBA has done projects across the US and Canada, and a few in South America and the Caribbean.
