Jim Barrett has been a leader in the profession of irrigation consulting for over fifty years, establishing his own firm in 1985 after thirteen years with Robert Trent Jones (senior). He played a crucial role in shaping the profession, especially beyond California. Before Barrett’s independent venture, golf irrigation design was largely controlled by distributors and contractors. However, his expertise and professionalism quickly garnered attention, leading to widespread recognition and satisfied clients.

Barrett’s contributions went beyond project success; he became a prominent advocate for the profession, presenting at national conferences and co-authoring significant works like “GOLF COURSE IRRIGATION ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN AND MANAGEMENT PRACTICES.” His influence extended through memberships in key industry organizations such as ASABE, USGA, and GCBAA.

His portfolio boasts over 350 golf course irrigation systems, including 22 of the top 100 courses in the US according to GOLF DIGEST Magazine. Additionally, Barrett has dedicated himself to industry service, holding positions on the IA and ASIC boards, serving as Past President of ASIC, and contributing twenty-two years to the IA Certification Board of Governors.
