  • Biography

    Professional Biography
My career began in the irrigation industry as a temporary summer hire for a landscape architectural firm while working on my engineering degree.  I ran diazo blueprints (yes, this dates me), errands, and provided relief drafting work (Rotrings on mylar of course.)  I was enamored by the green industry and the positive influence green spaces provide human culture.  It was immediately apparent how important water is to the development of landscape.  Yet, being of a finite source, the importance of proper and careful use of water in the landscape created the directive for how I wanted to influence the industry.

I changed my career path and enrolled as one of the first students in the Irrigation Science Program at Cal Poly.
I was fortunate to study under Joe Y.T. Hung, Eudell Vis, and Dr. Ramesh Kumar.   They combined the principles of soils, horticulture, and irrigation science to integrate the aspects of soil, plant and water relationships.

I began providing irrigation design for the firm and grew the department.  Ten years later, Water Concern was formed.

I joined  the American Society of Irrigation Consultants and volunteered to participate on the local southern California Board as well as the national Board.  The professional exchange of ideas and practices along with a lifetime of friendships have made the time and commitment to ASIC well worth it.

The irrigation industry is one with rapid growth in technology, regulation and design innovation.  There is always something new and innovative to promote the conservation of resources.  There is no better way to devote a life of work than to participate in the artistic endeavors of landscape architects throughout the industry while making a mark to conserve water on each project.
